Alien Alley is the local video arcade, a second home to Jonno and his friends. One long weekend, Jonno is asked to look after the arcade when the proprietor has a break. He is joined by his friends; Janine, Kerry and Steven. Over the weekend, a tragic accident brings up many issues and has these friends questioning just who the 'winners' and 'losers' are in life anyway.... Jonno and his friends have all come from different situations. Janine is still grieving the death of her mother and struggling to be a mother to her young twin brothers, when she finds her father in bed with her mother's friend. Kerry has wagged school a few times too many, and her bright purple hair is not about to endear her to the Deputy Principal. Steve, the larger-than-life kitchen hand, has just lost his job for turning a carving knife on his boss and Jonno, an unemployed high school drop-out, is everything his rock star brother, Wayne, is not. Video Zone is a gritty account of everyday life from the viewpoint of four teenagers who have dealt with their fair share of challenges. The importance of friendship is highlighted but without a heavy moralistic tone. When the going gets tough, these four arcade minders discover that so long as your friends are there for you, it'll be OK.....
